About this tutorial

This tutorial will guide you on how to make a copy of your DVD. You will have an option to keep the original menu, and all the features identical to the original, or you can reauthor the disc. Meaning, we will just copy the main movie. Reauthoring will allow you to copy 2 disc movies, double sided ones, or copy two movies on a single DVDR disc. If you want to go to this tutorial instead, click here. If you want a full backup  for your DVD follow the instruction below.

Once again, we would like to make our "DISCLAIMER" very clear. We do not condone any illegal activities, or violations of the copyright laws. This tutorial is intended for educational purposes only. Ok, if you heard enough of that let us get started.

STEP ONE

The first step in this tutorial is to download and install these applications: (1) DVD Decrypter, (2) DVD Shrink , (3) Nero .

STEP TWO

Create two new folders somewhere in your hard drive. Make a note of  this location. Now name the first folder " FIRST ," then the second " SECOND." CLICK HERE to view an example

STEP THREE

Place the DVD into the DVD ROM. Press cancel on the auto run prompt. Run the DVD Decrypter. It should scan the DVD movie automatically. If it doesn’t, eject the DVD and reload it. You should see something like this on the screen. CLICK HERE

Make sure on the "Mode" tab you choose "File" and not ISO, or IFO. Click on the destination folder to open the file browser.  Now point it to the "FIRST" folder the one that we just have created above. Finally, click on the disc and the hard drive icon. The ripping should begin immediately and will save the movie into your hard drive. Wait until the ripping is completely done.

WARNING: This could take up some large space of your hard drive, just don't forget to delete these files after you're done recording them on the disc.

STEP FOUR

In this section, we will be using the DVD Shrink to Transcode, and record the movie onto DVDR disc. Open the DVD Shrink, then click on "Open Files " button. Point the file browser to the "FIRST" folder.

The movie will load and the DVD Shrink will analyze it. Press the "FULL DISC" button then press on the compression tab settings and make sure it is set to automatic.

The upper right corner of the DVD Shrink should have the file size of the output movie. The ideal is 4464 MB, this is being done for you automatically. If this file is too large, you will see a red area on the indicator bar, then a second transcoding is necessary.

Before you click the "back up" button, make sure you deselect some audio, and subtitle options that you do not like. This applies only if you do not want them included on the disc. Leave it checked if you want them included in the final movie. WARNING: Make sure you don't uncheck the one that is included as the main audio, or the special feature's audio. It is always good to include all of them, until you become familiar on the movie structures. CLICK HERE to view the screen shots.

Now you may click the "back up" button and set the tabs as it shown in the chart below.
